2012-2013 Budget Input

Staff, Parents, Students, and Community Members,

As you are all aware, the district has to submit its budget for the 2012-13 school year to the NM PED this spring.  Our budget has to be submitted by our deadline of April 9th.   We are then required to confirm our budget with the PED through a meeting—either in person or by phone—approximately 2 weeks later.  Because this process is essential in determining how our district will run next year, I am soliciting your participation in this process.  It has always been my philosophy to have the staff as part of this process.  Some of my first correspondence included this statement:

“I believe in building and sustaining relationships with the people I work with at all times.  I feel strongly about this particular leadership principle.  Core to this principle is earning trust.  I can only do that by being a person of my word, genuinely listening, caring and never asking anyone in the organization to do something that I would not be willing to do.  Relationships build the solid foundation of successful teams, and it is our team that will launch the success and achievement of our students to heights we have not yet experienced.”

By having the staff, students, and community involved with creating the future of our school district, we can only ensure success.  Transparency has to be established—beginning with understanding the budget and having input.    The district is facing a shortfall of over $500,000 from this year’s budget to next year’s budget because of many factors that are affecting districts across the state.  We know our district, we know our needs; this is why your input is so valuable.  The following meetings have been set up in the next couple of weeks to solicit your input.  I invite you to participate when and where you can.  Committees will determine if additional meetings are to be scheduled.
