A Message From Your Principal

Dear Pecos High School Families,

Welcome to the 2022 - 2023 school year!  I am thrilled to welcome everyone back to school. We
are able to continue to work face to face with staff and students this year. I look forward to
continuing the academic program with our students. My staff is excited to see everyone as well.
The staff changes at this point are in our Special Education program as Ms. Christine Leal joins
the PHS family. Another change is that we are welcoming Mari Ortiz as our campus security
officer. Lastly, we will have a different Library EA to work with our students. We will be
introducing that person soon.
We continue to work on school safety for our students to mitigate the health risks from Covid-19
as we get updated information from the Governor, CDC, and NMPED. We also are looking to
work on the building safety this year to further address campus needs.
We will also continue to develop student academic and behavioral supports to keep students
engaged while fostering a lifetime love for learning. We appreciate your continued support and
look forward to working with you this year. Go Panthers! #PecosStrong.

Sincerely,

Dr. Pedro “Pete” Vallejo, Principal

HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELOR

Karla Espinoza

School Counselor - PHS Site Testing Coordinator & Registrar

Dear Pecos High School Students and parents:

Pecos High School Juniors and Seniors who plan on taking Dual Credit courses at Luna Community College (LCC) in Las Vegas, NM or Santa Fe Community College (SFCC) in Santa Fe, NM, please make sure that you have applied online at the college’s website BEFORE the upcoming semester. Upon applying to the college, students should email Ms. Espinoza AS SOON AS POSSIBLE with their acceptance and schedule a time for further advisement.

In order to be eligible for Dual Credit courses, you must be in good academic standing and take the Accuplacer exam for English and Math courses in order to be placed into those classes; students who have previously taken the Accuplacer and passed, do not need to retake the exam. Elective courses do not require Accuplacer scores but may be contingent on English and Math courses. Ms. Espinoza will schedule onsite testing through LCC and SFCC throughout the academic year. Student’s may schedule their own Accuplacer testing dates/times upon being admitted to the college of choice. Upon receiving Accuplacer scores; please inform Ms. Espinoza.

Please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Espinoza with any questions regarding Dual Credit!

Thank you,

Ms. Karla Espinoza
